The Sweatt Shop features absolutely adorable pillows and pillow covers, baby blankets, bags, and minky bunnies, and it all started with a beginner’s sewing machine and the need for some pillows.
Rebecca Sweatt had some leftover fabric from that personal project, so she made a couple more and listed them for sale online. “They sold instantly!” Rebecca says. It was a no-brainer for her to purchase more sewing machines and develop new products.
Inspired by her daughter’s interests in everything from airplanes to unicorns, Rebecca loves to use bright colors and interesting pattern combinations to create her beautiful products. “I love the independence of running my business how I see fit,” Rebecca tells us. “I also really like meeting new people, whether show organizers or the clients. I have made lots of friendships with people all over the United States.”
Backroads Market is so glad to welcome her as a new friend.
It also helps that her business allows her to stay home with her 4-year-old daughter. Though her creative time is often interrupted by such classics as “Mom, juice!” and “Mom, I want a snack!” Rebecca wouldn’t have it any other way.
Rebecca’s favorite product is the cross-body bag. Not only does it have room for all the essential mom things, it is secure enough to allow you hands-free toddler chasing and shopping (especially for Market days). It also contains a cell phone pocket, so go ahead and wear that skirt without worrying about where to put your phone.
As brilliant as the cross-body bag is, Rebecca’s customers go gaga for the sweet minky bunnies she makes. Softer than soft, the bunnies are 11 inches tall and have a letter appliqued on on their bellies. Personalized cuteness. We can’t even.
Rebecca is looking forward to her first Market Day so she can meet all our other amazing vendors, bunches of incredible new customers, and little ol’ us.
Because you’ll get to see us, too.
See you there!
